Cologne – JCON EUROPE returns to its venue from May 12–15, once again offering an extensive program for Java enthusiasts. In addition to over 100 speakers and sessions, Monday, May 12 is fully dedicated to hands-on, expert-led workshops.
Each workshop is a two-hour deep dive into cutting-edge technologies and real-world development topics. Participants can choose from a total of seven different sessions across two time slots: 1:00–3:00 PM and 4:00–6:00 PM. A coffee break in between provides room for informal networking.
The wide range of topics includes:
- IBM Office
- 1 PM: Ultra Efficient Startup for Production Java Workloads: Mark Stoodley (Chief Architect for Java, IBM Canada) shares techniques for optimizing Java application startup in production environments – including JVM tuning and startup time minimization.
- Room: Rom
- 1 PM: Build an AI-Powered Application with Helidon and LangChain4J: Marta Tolosa & Sydney Nurse (Oracle) demonstrate how to build Java applications enhanced by LLMs and AI workflows, using Helidon and LangChain4J.
- 4 PM: Using Vector Embedding Models with Java Apps: In the afternoon session, Tolosa & Nurse explain how to integrate vector embeddings into Java applications – enabling semantic search, intelligent recommendations, and context-aware features.
- Room: San Francisco
- 1 PM: Catching up with JUnit 5: Christian Stein & Marc Philipp (JUnit Team) provide an update on the latest features, enhancements, and ecosystem developments in the widely adopted JUnit 5 testing framework.
- 4 PM: AI-based Optimization in Expedition Planning: Sven Ruppert (Freelancer) explores a real-world AI use case, showcasing how optimization algorithms can support complex planning and decision-making scenarios.
- Room: Köln/Bonn
- 1 PM: EclipseStore Getting Started Coding Workshop: Christian Kuemmel (MicroStream) offers a hands-on introduction to EclipseStore, covering object persistence, lazy loading, stream-based querying, and legacy type mapping in Java.
- 4 PM: Data Replication with EclipseStore: In this advanced session, Kuemmel demonstrates how to scale and replicate EclipseStore-based applications in cloud-native environments using Docker and Kubernetes. Key focus: the EclipseStore Cluster Service (MECS), enabling distributed deployments, auto-scaling, and scale-in to zero to optimize infrastructure costs.
Participation in a workshop costs €15.97 (excl. VAT). Early booking is recommended to interested parties, as places are limited and allocated on a “first come, first served” basis. Only one workshop can be booked per time slot to give as many participants as possible the chance to attend.
